The 2017 Dove Global Girls Beauty and Confidence Report interviewed over 5,000 girls aged 10-17 across 14 countries and found that 54% of girls do not have healthy body confidence. That same report found that 6 out of 10 girls constantly feel medium to high pressure to always look “acceptable”.
What exactly does “acceptable” mean in the context of beauty and body confidence? According to a 2019 Hoff survey, most Americans consider the ideal woman to be 5’5” and 128 pounds with a 26-inch waist. This is clearly not realistic– the average American woman is actually around 5’4” and weighs approximately 170 pounds.

In all my years in the fashion industry, I’ve found one thing to be true: That a strong, secure, and confident woman is a stunning sight to see! A confident woman stands out from others, exuding grace and encouraging everyone around her. I know that buried deep within every woman out there is that strong confident woman waiting to emerge. Sometimes she just needs a little help, and that’s okay! That help can come in many ways. My personal help came through learning that I can overcome adversity and bloom where I’m planted– with a lot of encouragement from friends along the way. My faith also consistently reminds me that I am beautifully and wonderfully made (and you are too!)
While our clothes do not define our worth, wearing clothes that help us feel beautiful and stylish can help to bring out that strong secure woman that is hiding inside all of us! Feeling good about our outward appearance can strengthen our inner confidence. At the same time, our inner confidence helps us to wear our styles boldly and beautifully. It is a perfect partnership!
I am literally anywhere from a size small to a 3x on any given day, and I know lots of other beautiful women who are the same way! That’s why we offer lots of generously sized and one-sized clothing in the trendiest styles out there. We also know sizing can work the opposite way, though, making us feel less than or like we don’t fit a particular beauty standard.
Keeping that in mind, we never get caught up on tag sizing. No matter the size of an item, if you are comfortable with the fit and comfortable with the look, then it’s perfect for you!
